What Is Sold Secure?
Sold Secure is an independent UK testing organisation that assesses security products, including bicycle locks. Locks are subjected to a range of attacks using tools commonly used by thieves and are then awarded a security rating based on how well they perform.
Eversure's Approved Lock Requirements
At Eversure, the minimum lock requirement depends on the replacement value of your bicycle.

Make sure you always check your policy wording and certificate of insurance for the exact requirements that apply to your cover.
How to Check if Your Lock is Sold Secure Approved
The easiest way to check whether your lock meets your policy requirements is to:
- Find the make and model of your lock
- Check its Sold Secure rating by heading to their website and using their 'Approved Product Search' function
- Then compare this rating against your policy requirements
- Where possible, keep proof of ownership and receipt from purchasing the lock
If you're still not sure if your lock qualifies, get in touch with us. It's always better to check rather than using the wrong grade lock on your bike.
It's Not Just the Lock
Using the correct grade lock works best in conjunction with taking the following steps when securing your bike:
- Locking the bike to an immovable object
- Securing it through the frame, not just the wheel
- Removing valuable accessories like bike computers
- Choosing busy, well-lit areas to lock up
If at any point during the policy period you upgrade your bike, it's worth checking if your existing lock still meets the required security level.
